Coleraine Yacht Club was founded on 20th March 1962 at “The Slipway” beside the River Bann at Drumslade a mile downstream from the present clubhouse There were 10 founder members who each subscribed to the new club which they named “The River Bann Boat Club”. The first premises were most appropriate for a boat club in that they were aboard the escort ship “Emily” which had been towed from Londonderry and launched at Drumslade. As the club continued to grow, the County Council decided to build the Marina at Coleraine and the club negotiated the lease of of new premises. It was not without regrets that we left old faithful “Emily”.
Shortly after the move to Coleraine Marina the name was changed to Coleraine Yacht Club.
In the mid-70s it became obvious that the rented house at the edge of the marina site had only a limited life, and a new Clubhouse would be required. After negotiating with the Council, Coleraine Yacht Club was offered its present site. The current building enjoys magnificent views of the river from the club lounge area and up and down the river through the “portholes” We are based on an ideal site overlooking the River Bann convenient to the Marina and the three towns of Coleraine, Portstewart & Portrush.
We are approx 4½ miles from the Atlantic Ocean & enjoy all-year-round sailing.
If you, or your family, have any interest in sailing, you will be made very welcome at CYC.
